See what's kicking around in my studio
There are always MANY projects in-progress in my studio, here I will show some of them. Please note that since they are WIPs, the pictures will not be up to date for very long since I keep working on them! :)
SWF Wenceslas - Trad Kladruber stallion OS
NOTE: 'Wence' has since been finished! See him completed in the black gallery!
This is Wenceslas, an OS I've been working on since December of 2014. I am quite smitten with this guy! He has been a pretty easy fella to sculpt so far! And though he is a Klad, I keep envisioning all the breeds he could represent; Andy, Lusitano, Lipizzaner, & any of those would be neat with braided m&t! I think he could also do as a Mustang (add some light feathers!). Wence is a bit tricky to photograph since he is twisted in is leap! Hopefully my pics will do him justice! Wence will eventually be cast as an AR... someday!
Wondering about that name? Wenceslas? There's a story to it! The Kladruber, Kladrubsky, or Kladruby is a pretty rare carriage breed from the present day Czech Republic. This was just about all I could find on where they came from, so I finally did some digging to see what the piece of land was called when the Klad breed was developed & at its prime as a court carriage horse. The breed was from the Kingdom of Bohemia before all the country name & boundary changes.
As I researched this, I found a very interesting fact: From about 921 AD to 935 AD, the Duke of the Kingdom of Bohemia was a fella named Wenceslas I. Wenceslas, sainted after his death (he was murdered by his brother Boleslav!), was a truly great man & a strong Christian. St. Wenceslas is still remembered today with a holyday in the Czech Republic, & by a song also known here: the Christmas carol 'Good King Wenceslas'.
The carol was published over 900 years after the death of St. Wenceslas. And why is he referred to as a king in the song? The title was bestowed on St. Wenceslas posthumously by Holy Roman Emperor Otto I.
SO! I can just envision Duke Wenceslas astride a Kladruber or riding in a carriage drawn by Kladrubies! In Prague there is a statue of St. Wenceslas mounted on a horse.
I like to think that his steed is a Kladruber!
