SWF Sundara
SWF Sundara (Sanskrit for ‘handsome’) is a Traditional scale Marwari stallion measuring aprx. 8 ½ inches from ground to ear tips; aprx. 6 ½ inches to the withers; about a foot long (nose to tail tip); and is about 2 ½ inches wide, aprx. 3 inches including his flying mane.
He is in a versatile left lead canter, standing on two feet and a clear rod from his left fore. He stands steady on his own with no need of a base, if he does tip to his right, his right hind airborne hoof should catch him.
He has veins and wrinkles all over the place along with such details as carved hooves, bridle path, whisker bumps, eye lashes, chestnuts, ergots, and more. Much superstition revolves around the placement and direction of hair whorls on Marwari and Sundara sports ones of blessing, prosperity, safety in battle, luck and a good horse.
He accommodates both English and Western saddles, his forelock is flat enough to allow a brow band, and his ears don’t actually touch, as is so common in his breed, so as to allow a one/two eared bridle or the chain/strap of a frontispiece without having to dismantle the thing to put it on. His mane allows a fairly tight rein and does not get in the way of a breast plate/collar. The base of his tail accommodates a crupper and his legs will not hinder the fitting of boots.
Along with the curly ears that set this breed apart, Sundara has the classic looks of this desert horse; the long legs, slender body, thin mane and tail, and the correct headset to produce the “Marwari look”, as the breed standard puts it.
