About the artist
Carissa Kirksey

I was born in ’90 the only child of non-horsey parents. Like so many of us model horse folks, the plastic ponies came into my life as a hopeful appeasement of ‘Horse Crazy Little Girl Syndrome’… Alas, all that did was add to the madness! I was home schooled from K through grade 12 & thank my Mom often for giving me my home education. If not for that & her genuine appreciation of anything I created, I don’t think I would have had or followed my dream of becoming a professional model horse artist.
I have always been artistic. I am self-taught, having only ever taken art classes for pottery... & you'll notice that I am not sharing any pictures of my pottery with you! ;) My true love is for sculpting, customizing & painting the model horse, but occasionally I also do model tack & prop making, pencil drawings, acrylic paintings, & mixed medias.
I love animals and am currently owned by two handsome male housecats; Ellery & Reilly (Elly is my Official Studio Supervisor) & two B size American Miniature Horses; Chess, my pretty mare & Night, my handsome gelding.
While model horses do fill the majority of my life, here are some of my other interests; I have a true passion for old time radio! I enjoy listening to recordings of original broadcasts form the 30s to the 60s, sometimes taking in as many as 10 hours a day. My favorite programs are “Fibber McGee And Molly”, “Gunsmoke”, "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar", & "I Love A Mystery". I also love history! All sorts of history! From the better known to the obscure! And I find it truly fascinating & frightening how in so many instances it really does repeat itself. I love nature & being out in it, rearing & sometimes tagging Monarch Butterflies, & the country ...the farther back of beyond the better! I enjoy reading books & watching old movies (anything past 1950 is new). I am a fan of Harry Potter -mostly the books, Doctor Who, the MCU, Star Wars, & The Shadow of the Pulp novel era. (Me? A nerd? I have no idea what you're talking about!) And I adore our awesome county Fair where I show art, including an OS, every year!
Back to model horses... I enjoy live showing when I can and photo showing often. I’m involved in the Model Equine Photo Showers Association (MEPSA) as much as I can be & am currently holding the position of MEPSA secretary. They are the greatest bunch of folks you can find and offer the most competitive mail-in photo show circuit with an amazing season end International Championship show!
Last, but not least, I love my Lord. I give Him the glory of every one of my creations. He has given me an amazing gift.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have ever lasting life.
John 3:16 New King James Version
If you have one of my ARs or sales or donation pieces, it will more than likely have this verse along with my signature. Commission pieces will not usually have a verse on them.
